Summary: | This collection contains manuscript notes, lists, catalogs, illustrations, and ship records concerning fish specimens. The catalogs are the primary documentation for many of the specimens of the Division of Fishes. Although they vary in content, as a general rule they contain specimen-related data including catalogs of specimens collected, dates, localities, tag numbers, measurements, and remarks on the specimens. Less frequently, they contain journal entries of the collector describing field activities, affairs of the day, and personal matters. Some materials are located in the National Museum of Natural History, Division of Fishes. |

This record unit consists of a small amount of notes, lists, and illustrations in the Archives, and a much larger quantity of field notes, catalogs, and records kept in the Division of Fishes, Cataloging Room.
