The Bigger Picture: Visual Archives and the Smithsonian

Lynda Schmitz Fuhrig

Lynda Schmitz Fuhrig

What do you do?

I am the electronic records archivist who handles everything from word processing files, to born-digital audio and video, to Smithsonian websites in our collections. My job is to ensure that we care for and make accessible these electronic records now and in the future. By working at the Archives I see firsthand what goes on across all the offices and units that keep the Smithsonian Institution running.

Favorite spot in DC to recommend to visitors

Eastern Market on the weekend and then a Smithsonian museum.

Collection Favorites

May 21, 1954. This is the day Remington Kellogg, then director of the US National Museum (now the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History), wrote to my dad, acknowledging his donation of a wasp and cocoon to the Smithsonian. I wrote about it in a blog post.
