In addition to the centralized animal registration records maintained at the National Zoological Park (see record unit 386), keepers also kept records for their own reference within their departments.

This material consists of record books with information about the health, behavior, breeding, births, deaths, and diet of the animals at the National Zoological Park (NZP), as well as keeper diaries and daily reports, and annual lists of NZP's holdings. Also included are daily checksheets for the giant pandas that record their diet, activities, and behavior.
