DESCRIPTIVE ENTRY

Harry W. Allen (1892-1981), an entomologist, spent most of his professional career with the United Sates Department of Agriculture. He was recognized as an authority on the wasp family Tiphiidae. Allen donated many insect specimens to the National Museum of Natural History. These papers document Allen's research on Tiphiidae and include correspondence with colleagues concerning the identification of specimens, publications, and other matters; notes; and manuscripts of papers.
