This accession consists of records which document all the various aspects of exhibition development, planning, design, and publicity. In particular these records document the exhibition, "Red, Hot, and Blue: A Salute to American Musicals." Aspects of the exhibition documented include the development of an accompanying CD-ROM and CD music compilation; corporate sponsorship; a companion exhibition titled, "American Voices: Music at the Smithsonian" which was presented by Discover Card and accompanied the traveling "America's Smithsonian" exhibition; educational programs; lender files; exhibition scripts; product development; publicity; permissions; and audiovisual development and implementation. Additionally covered in these records is the planned exhibition, "Oscar!." Materials include correspondence, memoranda, visitor comments, contracts, permissions, resumes, brochures, proposals, black-and-white photographs and transparencies, press kits, color photographs and transparencies, catalogue manuscripts, typeset copy label text, manuals, and exhibition scripts.
