- Image of Dr. Scott Miller sitting at a microscope looking at moth specimens. Miller, an entomologist, received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his doctorate degree in biology from Harvard University.
- In 2010, Miller is named Deputy Under Secretary for Collections and Interdisciplinary Support, effective December 19, 2010. The position reports to the Under Secretary for Science and the Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture. The new position serves as the principal advisor to the Institution's senior staff on the central planning and development of collections and interdisciplinary support operations, including collections management, conservation and preservation, and related functions. Previously Miller worked at the Smithsonian from 2004 to 2006 as the associate director for science at the National Zoological Park, and from 2000 to 2006, he served as chairman of the departments of entomology and systematic biology at the National Museum of Natural History.
