Summary

Land of the Dragons Exhibit opens featuring ethnological materials from the eastern Himalayan country of Bhutan collected by Dr. Eugene I. Knez, the Museum's Curator of Asian Anthropology. This exhibit was planned to coincide with the June coronation of the 19-year-old king, and included the display of photographs, paintings, textiles, costumes, copper, gold and silver vessels, religious objects, basketry, and pottery. Among the lenders to the exhibit was Smithsonian Secretary S. Dillon Ripley, who has made several trips to Bhutan.
