As part of the nationwide celebration of "Scandinavia Today," sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities, the Smithsonian hosts a series of programs highlighting Scandinavian arts and culture. The Smithsonian Associates hosts a series of programs on contemporary Scandinavia. The Cooper-Hewitt Museum opens an exhibit, "Scandinavian Modern: 1880-1980," on September 21, 1982, and hosts a symposium on "Scandinavian Design," on October 14-16, 1982.
