  • Biography: Anne d'Harnoncourt of Pennsylvania was the George D. Widener Director and chief executive officer of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where she had worked since 1971. An acclaimed author and internationally respected art historian and administrator, she was awarded two signal honors in the field of arts and letters in 1995: the government of France's diploma of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters and election as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was also a member of the American Philosophical Society and a director of the Henry Luce Foundation. She served from 1974 until 1986 as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and from 1975 to 1981 as a member of the Smithsonian Council.
