Summary

Zoologist Horatio Hackett Newman (1875-1957) received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1905 and served as a professor there from 1917 until 1940. He traveled to Dayton to be an expert witness in the 1925 Scopes anti-evolution trial but was not allowed to testify. His statement was entered into the court record.
