Summary

This accession consists of 21 plates from H. C. Wood's, "A Contribution to the History of the Fresh-Water Algae of North America." Published in 1872, it was part of the Smithsonian Contributions to Knowledge series (Vol. 241). Wood was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1841 and graduated with an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1862. In 1866 he assumed the chair of botany in the auxiliary faculty of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Wood is best known for his contributions to the fields of experimental pharmacology and therapeutics.
