Abstract

The notebook documents geological fieldwork completed by August Foerste in Kentucky and Tennessee (undated). Pages are numbered. Entries include location information (combination of town, geological and other landmarks (e.g. railroads or name of owners, and distance from,) and descriptions of terrain, including geological sections. Sections include measurements, composition (type of stone), and color and layers. There are sometimes hand drawn maps of locations observed. There are lists of numbered locations with additional location information. Many locations visited are in the vicinity of railroad cuts or quarries. At the end of the notebook are illustrations of shell specimens.
