National Museum of African Art, Assistant Director for Administration - Agency History

The Assistant Director's position at the National Museum of African Art was initially titled as Assistant Director for Administration during 1979-1980. After an interval in 1981-1982 when the incumbent served as Acting Deputy Director, the position title was changed to Assistant Director in 1983 and seems to have remained so for some time. However, since at least 1999 it has been Assistant Director for Administration again.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the various administrative functions of the National Museum of African Art, especially those relating to budget, planning, physical plant and the like. Jean M. Salan served as Assistant Director for Administration, 1979-1980, Acting Deputy Director, 1981-1982, and Assistant Director, 1983-1991. Patricia L. Fiske served as Assistant Director, 1992-2002. As of June 2002 there is a vacancy, pending selection of her replacement.
