Summary

This accession consists of web content related to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. The massacre occurred in the prosperous African American community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 31 through June 1, 1921, leaving as many as 300 dead and 10,000 homeless. The National Museum of African History and Culture (NMAAHC) homepage was crawled on June 1, 2021. Bunch is also the founding director of NMAAHC. This crawl was limited in scope and linked content is not included in this accession. The NMAAHC Twitter account was crawled on June 1, 2021. Twitter is a microblogging tool used by NMAAHC to promote events and highlight exhibitions and collections in posts known as "tweets." This crawl contains both tweets from NMAAHC as well as those by other organizations and individuals that tagged NMAAHC during the time period leading up to the anniversary of the massacre. Due to technical issues, some content may be missing or may not function as expected. The hashtag "#Tulsa100" was promoted by NMAAHC for use in tweets related to the anniversary. The Twitter search results page for this hashtag was crawled June 1, 2021. Additionally, tweets using this hashtag were exported into two formats between May 24 and June 2, 2021.
