This accession consists of social media content created by the Biodiversity Heritage Library Consortium (BHL). Headquartered at the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives, BHL is a consortium of major natural history, botanical, and research libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the literature of biodiversity held in their collections as a part of a global "biodiversity commons." The BHL YouTube channel was crawled in two parts on March 13, 2021. One crawl focuses on the account in general while the other crawl focuses on the videos. YouTube is a video-sharing service used for disseminating informational, educational, and promotional videos. Due to technical issues, some content may be missing and some features may not function as expected. BHL's Facebook account was exported using the platform's download feature on April 5, 2021. Facebook is a third-party social networking site used for interaction with the general public. The primary BHL Twitter account was crawled on May 18, 2021. Twitter is a microblogging platform used by BHL to promote its collections, projects, and tools. In addition, four accounts maintained by individual BHL staff were crawled on June 10, 2021.
