Summary

This accession consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence maintained by Robert B. Faden, Associate Curator, 1980-2014. Faden's research focuses on the evolution of Commelinaceae, seed dimorphism, African flora, plant anatomy, and reproductive biology. Materials include correspondence with United States and foreign botanists; directors and botanists of botanical gardens; scientific societies; university professors; museum directors; and colleagues concerning botanical research, specimens, publications, and collecting expeditions. Some correspondence dates before Faden's tenure at the Smithsonian Institution. Supporting documentation includes notes, scientific publications, and photographs.
