Summary

This accession consists of three websites maintained by the Smithsonian Libraries and Archives. The Smithsonian Libraries and the Smithsonian Institution Archives had been separate entities until their integration into the new Smithsonian Libraries and Archives which officially occurred in October 2020. These crawls reflect the transition period to a single unit as well as the closures associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. The Smithsonian Institution Archives website was crawled on September 17, 2021. The website includes information for researchers, staff, and the general public regarding reference, records management, and preservation. It also includes publications, resources for teachers, online exhibitions, historical images, and narrative histories of the Smithsonian Institution and its museums, research centers, activities, and staff as well as the blog, "The Bigger Picture: Exploring Archives and Smithsonian History," with posts dating from January 2009. The Smithsonian Libraries website was crawled on September 18, 2021. It includes information about the library system and its staff and collections as well as educational resources, press releases, research tools, and online exhibitions. Detailed collection information is not included in this accession. The website for the dSpace repository, originally maintained by the Smithsonian Libraries, was crawled on June 28, 2021. It contains information about the Libraries' digital collections. Collection metadata and digital collection items are incomplete in this crawl. Materials are in electronic format.
