Summary

This accession consists of audio and visual recordings, as well as their supporting documentation, of the Lemelson Center public program "Innovative Lives" and the online symposia "New Perspectives on Energy Innovation" and "Robotics and Artificial Intelligence: New Perspectives." "Innovative Lives" is a public program series that brings audiences of all ages and backgrounds face-to-face with diverse inventors and innovation leaders to engage in a public conversation about their pioneering work and careers. Among those featured are Sunil Cherian, Theresa Dankovich, Amy Prieto, Madison Maxey, and Beverly Wood. The Lemelson's symposia serve as forums for issues related to invention and innovations. "New Perspectives on Energy Innovation" addresses the 1973 energy crisis and how it inspired new science and technology policies and several innovations, including alternative nuclear, solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources and more fuel-efficient automobiles. Technology innovators, historians, journalists, and policymakers featured in the symposium include Kelly Cummins, Arthur A. Daemmrich, Richard F. Hirsh, Meg Jacobs, Robinson Meyer, Clark A. Miller, and Cyrus C. M. Mody. "Robotics and Artificial Intelligence: New Perspectives" focuses of the social benefits, negative impacts, and future prospects for innovations in robots and artificial intelligence. Computer scientists, roboticists, historians, economists, social scientists, cultural critics, and policymakers who participated in the symposium include Christopher G. Atkeson, Cynthia L. Breazeal, Meredith Broussard, Sarah Dillion, Bran Ferren, Timnit Gebru, Khari Johnson, Edward Jones-Imhotep, Andrew Meade McGee, David A. Mindell, Dawn Nafus, Nikolas Noel, Jennifer Rhee, Carlene E. Stephens, and Margaret A. Weitekamp. Materials include participant releases, audio and video recordings, and program brochures. Materials are in electronic format.
