This accession consists of the email account of David E. Wildt, senior scientist and Director of the National Zoological Park, Center for Species Survival, 2006-2018, and emeritus scientist, 2019-2020. Wildt uses basic and applied research to gain a better understanding of how to manage and improve the conservation of small wildlife populations, especially endangered species. He specializes in wildlife species reproduction, genetics, veterinary medicine, nutrition, ecology, behavior, and reintroduction of species to nature; as well as manages the wildlife animal collection at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, which was known as the Conservation and Research Center before 2010. Wildt's account consists of more than 104,810 messages covering the time periods February 2006 to February 2015, April 2015, August 2015, November 2015, February 2016, April to May 2016, July to August 2016, and October 2016 to January 2020.
