This accession consists of materials created and maintained by Rosemary Phillips, Affiliations Program manager. The records document Phillips' work in managing the museum's participation in the Smithsonian's Affiliations Program. Through this program, the Smithsonian develops long-term relationships with museums large and small across the country, and expands access to the National Museum of American History's collections, research, interpretation, and programs. A significant portion of the materials document the work of museum staff at the National Museum of American History (NMAH) in the creation of the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) which was initiated by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Staff involved include Ann Silverman, Project Manager; Peter Liebhold, Curator, and Steven D. Lubar, Curator. Some materials date to before the creation of the Department of Affiliations when Phillips was in the Office of Historical Resources and document her work on the Staff Development Committee and with cross-training initiatives at the museum. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, guidelines, notes, presentations, agendas, board records, reports, project charters, budget records, exhibit label text, object lists, collection surveys, architectural drawings, videotapes, color photographs, black-and-white photographs, brochures, and clippings.
