This accession consists of the email account of Thomas Brandt Ryder, research scientist in the Migratory Bird Center at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, which is a branch of the National Zoological Park. Ryder's research focus is on the mechanistic basis of adaptive behavioral variation of birds, as well as the causes of avian population declines. He uses field and experimental approaches, molecular and endocrine methods, and statistical modeling to gain a better understanding of both migrant and resident birds.
