This accession consists of records that document the creation of the Albert H. Small Documents Gallery at the National Museum of American History (NMAH). The gift from Albert H. Small, President of Southern Engineering Corporation, allowed for the creation of the gallery devoted to the display of rare and historically significant documents. Documents for exhibit reflect major events and themes in American history from the Smithsonian's collections, public institutions, and private collections. The gallery opened to the public in the fall of 2008. These materials were kept and maintained by Cathy Keen, acquisitions archivist and curator on the project team to create the gallery. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, agreements, charters, floor plans, budget records, exhibit guidelines, presentations, scopes of work records, design drawings, exhibit proposals, license agreements, and other related materials.
