Summary

This accession consists of two websites maintained by the Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit (WRBU). The WRBU performs collections management activities for the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Department of Entomology mosquito collection, comprising over 1.5 million specimens. The WRBU also provides assistance to staff and researchers in locating and examining specimens. In addition, the WRBU maintains a molecular entomology laboratory within the Smithsonian Institution, Museum Support Center. The primary WRBU website was crawled on August 27, 2021, shortly after it was redesigned. The website includes information about the unit, species and genus profiles, identification keys, vector hazard reports, and laboratory protocols. The "VectorMap" website was crawled on September 23, 2021, shortly after it was redesigned. The website provides collection records, distribution models, and other geospatial data relating to arthropods of biomedical importance designed to inform risk assessments of vector-borne diseases. Due to technical issues, data in this accession may be incomplete and some features do not function as expected. Materials are in electronic format.
