This accession consists of the email account of James Barber, historian and curator at the National Portrait Gallery. Barber received his M.A. in history from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his research specialties include portraiture of the American presidency and the Civil War era. As a member of the Department of History, he is a primary contributor to the museum's programs of exhibitions and has organized biographical exhibits about Theodore Roosevelt, George C. Marshall, Ulysses S. Grant, and Andrew Jackson. Barber is also the curator of the "Time" collection of original cover art, which includes more than 2,000 works that once appeared on the covers of "Time" magazine. Barber's email account consists of approximately 7,946 messages and covers the time period of October 2006 to May 2020. The correspondence documents Barber's work on research, exhibitions, collections acquisitions, public programs, and other related areas. Materials are in electronic format.
