  • Agassiz was a Swiss-born author, Harvard professor, zoologist, naturalist, b. Switzerland, d. Cambridge, Massachusetts; Smithsonian Regent, Citizen of Massachusetts (1863-1873). He was the leading biologist in the United States in the 1840s and the founding director of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. He was known for his anti-Darwinism stance.
