Summary

The Lincoln Gallery in the Patent Office Building occupied by offices of the Civil Service Commission. The building was occupied by the Patent Office until 1932 and then housed the Civil Service Commission until 1963. The Patent Office Building was turned over to the Smithsonian in 1958 but it was not ready for use by the National Collection of Fine Arts, now known as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, until 1965.
