Held to commemorate the life and work of Alice Paul, who successfully campaigned for women's suffrage in 1917-1918 and played a major role in the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment (19th Amendment or Amendment XIX) to the United States Constitution which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex. With Bella Abzug, former New York Congresswoman, Elizabeth Chittick, president of National Woman's Party (NWP), Hazel Hunkins Hallinan, women's rights activist, Midge Costanza, special assistant for women's affairs in the Carter administration, and Edith Mayo, assistant curator in the Political History Division at the National Museum of History and Technology, now known as the National Museum of American History.
