Summary

William Augustus Hinton, M.D. (1883-1959) was the first black professor in the history of Harvard University. This photograph was distributed in June 1949 when Dr. Hinton, who had been a member of the school's staff for over 25 years, was appointed Clinical Professor of Bacteriology and Immunology at the Harvard Medical School.
