Summary

This accession consists of the "Naturalist's Log" created and maintained at the Carrie Bow Cay Field Station in Belize. The station is part of the Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program and is administered by the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce. The logbook is a communal record of all aspects of life on and around the island and includes summaries of research projects, weather observations, wildlife sightings, turtle nesting information, and chronicles of daily activities. Entries are handwritten by scientists as well as the station's caretaker and are often accompanied by maps, sketches, and watercolor paintings. The previous log was destroyed in a fire.
