Summary

Standing at back (left to right): English naturalist Major Leonard Darwin (1850-1943) and Vannevar Bush (1890-1974), head of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development. Seated (left to right): Harlow Shapley (1885-1972), director of the Harvard College Observatory; U.S. Vice President Henry Wallace; and Edwin Grant Conklin (1863-1952), zoologist and executive officer of the American Philosophical Society. The men were participating in a radio broadcast in December 1941 for the dedication of the new Science Service headqaurters.
