Washington [[underlined]] January 8 1831 [[/underlined]] Sir, I have received your favor of the 4[[superscript]] th [[/superscript]] inst. informing me that I have been elected a corresponding member of the Columbian Institute. I beg leave through you to assure the gentlemen composing that respectable association that I duly appreciate the honor done me in this election; & that, if it should ever be in my power, I should take great pleasure in promoting the objects of the Institution.
