Sir,
I received your polite letter of the 1st instant; and beg leave through you to offer my thanks to the gentlemen of the Columbian Institute for the honour they have done me in electing me a corresponding member. I shall be truly happy if my feeble efforts can afford them any aid in the promotion of the great objects for which they are associated.
