Sir, I have had the honor to receive your letter, informing me that I "have been elected a resident member of the Columbian Institute for the promotion of Arts & Sciences." Sensible both of the merits of the Institution, and of the favor conferred, I shall discharge, with zeal, the duties imposed upon me.
