Sir
The Committee of the Columbian Institute who were appointed to address the Congress for a small extension of their ground [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] by which a portion would [[/insertion]] be added to the bottom of the garden on the west, have also thought that if two Portions of ground, one to the South of Square 633, the other to the north of 635 were to be ceded also to the Columbian Institute, to be disposed of as they may hereafter judge proper, the Society might be enabled by such sales [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] not only to ^[[/insertion]] [[insertion]] improve the grounds, but to [[/insertion]] erect a handsome Building, at the East end of this ground ceded to them by Congress, and it would thus, in [[strikethrough]] some [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] a great [[/insertion]] degree, connect the Capitol hill [[strikethrough]] more [[/strikethrough]] with the rest of the City; [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] but [[/insertion]] lest any objection should be made to this plan the Institute have thought it proper to solicit your concurrence and aid in obtaining this, and have concluded before they prepare and submit a petition to Congress, to know from you if you approve of the measure, & they further request from you a line [[strikethrough]] to state [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insertion]] in answer ^[[insertion]] to this [[/insertion]] containing [[/insertion]] your opinion.
We are Sir, in behalf of the Columbian Institute
