Summary

The collection is primarily comprised of specimen catalogs and manuscripts documenting Edmund P. Sheldon as a botanist in Oregon in 1897 for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is comprised of 2 bound volumes containing hand written field notes and several folders containing type written manuscripts for Sheldon's official report. The field books and manuscripts contain botanical species catalogue information including specimen numbers and scientific names and dated itinerary-style journal entries describing camps, landscape, mineral resources, and vegetation. There are also manuscripts documenting the field work of two related botanical researchers, B. B. Smyth and Berthold Seemann.
