Summary

Education researcher Alice Miel (1906-1998) attended Columbia University (Ph.D., 1944) and became a professor of education and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, at Columbias Teachers College. This photograph was distributed in conjunction with publication of her book Creativity in Teaching (1961). Her 1967 book The Shortchanged Children of Suburbia: What Schools Dont Teach about Human Differences and What Can Be Done About It has been described as a groundbreaking study of how schools were failing to teach about cultural diversity.
