Summary

This accession consists of records documenting Facebook accounts maintained throughout the Smithsonian Institution (SI). Facebook is a third-party social networking site used for interaction with the general public. In addition to general SI-wide accounts, many of which are managed by the Office of Public Affairs, the accession documents the accounts of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, including the Lunder Conservation Center and the Luce Foundation Center for American Art; the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery; the National Museum of American History, including the Lemelson Center; Smithsonian Affiliations; Smithsonian Enterprises, including Smithsonian Magazine, Air and Space Magazine, Smithsonian Channel, and Smithsonian Journeys; the Anacostia Community Museum; the Archives of American Art; the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; the National Museum of Natural History, including the Encyclopedia of Life, the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce, the Hall of Human Origins, the Global Volcanism Program, and the National Anthropological Archives, and the Ocean Portal; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the National Air and Space Museum, including the Steven F. Materials include screenshots of a portion of the "Wall," general information screens, photographs, event listings, and notes. Each of the accounts was captured sometime between February 28 and March 15, 2011. In general, approximately 2 months of "Wall" posts were captured; however, "Walls" that included a significant amount of original content were captured going back to the beginning of the account.
