Geologist Hugh Edward Clifton (b. 1934) worked at the U.S. Geological Survey, where his specialty was Pacific marine geology. In 1968, he was selected as one of four "Aquanaut-scientists" to participate in a 60-day underwater mission conducted jointly by U.S. Navy, NASA, Department of Interior, and General Electric Company.
