Summary

Consists of records documenting the establishment, activities, discussions, administration, and other work of the Smithsonian Congress of Scholars and the Smithsonian Congress of Scholars Council. The Smithsonian Congress of Scholars was organized in 1994 to represent the interests of researchers in all parts of the Institution, to articulate the common concerns/views of those who are responsible for research, and take measures to assist the Institution in providing a favorable climate for scholarly work. The Smithsonian Congress of Scholars provides a monthly forum for the exchange of ideas and for discussion of matters of general interest to Smithsonian researchers. Through its representative Council, the Congress seeks to bring the concerns and needs of Smithsonian researchers to the attention of Smithsonian managers and planners. Materials include correspondence, news clippings, newsletters, charts, agendas, attedance lists, brochures, by laws, constitution, minutes, notes, pamphlets, reports, and supporting documentation.
