Summary

Consists of publications produced for the National Collections of Fine Arts (NCFA) 1937-1979; National Museum of American Art (NMAA) (1980-2000); and, the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) (2000-). Publications relate to various museum activities and events such as, exhibitions; collection inventories; development materials; recruitment and promotional materials for programs; as well as, general and specific guides to the collections, museums, and research facilities. Some materials date to when the office was known as the NMAA Office of Publications (1980-1995), NMAA Office of Publications and New Media Initiatives (1995-1999), NMAA Office of Publications and Electronic Publications (1999-2000), SAAM Office of Print and Electronic Publications (2000-2002), and SAAM Publications Office (2002-). Materials include exhibition catalogs, booklets, brochures, pamphlets, invitations, note cards, posters, solicitations, press releases, handouts, newsletters, calendars of events, and checcklists.
