Summary

Consists of records documenting the activities and administration of the Smithsonian American Art Museum during the tenures of Deputy Directors Harry Lowe, 1983; and Charles J. Robertson, Associate Administrator, 1978-1983, Assistant Director, Resources, and Assistant Director, Museum Resources, 1983-1985, and Deputy Director, 1986- . Materials include correspondence and memoranda, reports, minutes, and other administrative records. Some records were created by Harry Lowe in his capacity as Curator of Exhibits and Curator, Exhibition and Design, 1965-1972; Assistant Director for Operations, 1973-1974; Assistant Director, 1975-1980; Acting Director, 1981; and Assistant Director, 1982.
