  • The Office of Special Events and Conference Services was created on November 1, 1992 as a result of a merger between the Office of Special Events and the Office of Conference Services. In roughly 2000, the office name was changed to the Office of Special Events and Protocol. Katherine Kirlin was appointed Acting Director, serving 1992-1995. Nicole L. Krakora became Director and served 1995-2012. Katie Desmond started as Director in 2019, after having served as Deputy Director from 1998-2019. Other staff included Lois A. Noack, Assistant Director for Administration, c. 1996-1998; and Ted Anderson, Assistant Director for Events, c. 1994- .
  • The Office of Special Events and Protocol (OSEP) works with internal and external organizations and scholars to assist in conducting events and conferences. These conferences contribute to the development and maintenance of current and potential constituencies. In addition, OSEP advises on appropriate event spaces, oversees contractual arrangements with vendors and payment for services, coordinates events, and obtains bids from caterers. OSECS procurements include catering services, florists, musicians, and any other products or services needed in organizing these events.
