- The African American Studies Center of the Smithsonian Associates was created about 1993. It offers an array of programs centering on the African American experience. In complement to the Smithsonian museums' research, exhibitions and collections, the Center provides program-based outreach initiatives Through a curriculum consisting of a mix of courses, lectures, tours, seminars, performances and other educational experiences the African American Studies Center celebrates the story and achievements of African Americans.
