Summary

Consists of records documenting curatorial and professional activities in the Division of Culture and the Arts, with earlier records dating to when the division was known as the Division of Music, Sports, and Entertainment (2004-2012), the Division of Cultural History (1995-2004), the Division of Musical History (1987-1995), the Division of Musical Instruments (1966-1987), and the Section of Musical Instruments (prior to 1966). Photographic history staff joined the division in 2009. The division maintains collections of music and musical instruments, sports and recreation, theater and film, popular culture, photographic history, printing history and the graphic arts. Staff represented in these records include curators Cynthia Adams Hoover, John T. Fesperman, Gary Sturm, Alexander J. Wedderman, Eugene Ostroff, Fuller Griffith, Arthur J. Olmsted, Michelle Anne Delaney, Mary K. Grassick, Shannon Thomas Perich, John Edward Hasse, and assistant curator David Haberstich. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, and notes; meeting agendas and minutes; budget summaries; fundraising, awards, and grant information; newspaper clippings; photographs and slides; audio and video recordings; gift agreements; biographical information; collections management information; reports; lecture papers; research and exhibition proposals; publications; special event schedules and news releases; information about professional societies, conventions, special programs, seminars, workshops, and comittees; and brochures. Some materials are in electronic format.
