- Consists of records documenting administrative and program-oriented activities of the Office of Public Services during the tenures of Josiah O. Hatch, Director and Assistant Director, 1980-1984; Lonn Taylor, Deputy Assistant Director and Assistant Director, 1984- ; Harold A. Closter, Production Director, Program Manager, and Duputy Assistant Director, 1983- ; Bernice Johnson Reagon, Director of the Program in Black American History, 1983-1987; James Merle Weaver, Director of Performance Programs, 1983-1986; Shirley E. Cherkasky, Coordinator of Museum Programs, 1983- ; Elizabeth M. Sharpe, Education Specialist and Deputy Assistant Director for Public Programs, 1985- ; and Manuel J. Melendez, Performing Arts Production Specialist, 1984-1991. Some records predating 1983 were created the Division of Performing Arts.
- Materials include staff correspondence and memoranda pertaining to fund raising, social history lectures and seminars, budget, educational outreach proposals, and grant information; meeting minutes; research material; exhibition scripts, blueprints, and photographs; tour outlines; publication drafts, research files, contracts, negatives, and correspondence; videotapes and audiotapes of lectures and performances; and brochures, articles, and newspaper clippings on Museum special events.
