Summary

Consists of records documenting the activities of the office. The records illustrate the establishment of the collections as well as the restoration of the Renwick building. Topics in this series also include: conservation, lectures, exhibitions, publications, meetings, special events, and interactions with dealers and professional art organizations. The records were created by Lloyd E. Herman, who was appointed the first Director of the Renwick Gallery, 1974-1986; Michael W. Monroe, 1986-1995, who became the Curator-in-Charge in 1986 after the title was changed in the same year; Kenneth R. Trapp, Curator-in-Charge, 1995-2003; and Jane Milosch, Curator, 2004-2009. Records which predate the establishment of the office were created by former directors of the National Collection of Fine Arts: David W. Scott, (1965-1969); Robert Tyler Davis, (Acting Director in 1969), and Joshua Charles Taylor (1970-1973). Materials include correspondence; memoranda; special events files; reports; brochures; staff meeting notes; artists' surveys; images; exhibition catalogs; checklists; postcards; invitations; brochures; exhibition labels; exhibition proposals; acquisition records; research materials; architectural drawings; floor plans; and clippings.
