Summary

Consists of records documenting public relations, fiscal matters, personnel, equipment, procurement, and special projects of Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Records were maintained by Assistant Director Carlton W. Tillinghast, and when his position was known as the Assistant Director (Management). There are smaller amounts of records created by his predecessor, Kenneth H. Drummond, and the Executive Officer, Vaughan Harmon. Materials include appointments, audits, meeting minutes, objectives, reports, proposals, correspondence, Congressional records, scientific papers, circulars, amendments, plans, budget records, and policies.
