This collection consists primarily of field notebooks, journals, logs, and catalogs concerning mollusk specimens. Many of the volumes contain primary documentation for specimens in the Division of Mollusks. Although they vary in content, as a general rule the field notebooks contain specimen-related information including names of specimens, date collected, locality or station data, catalog or field numbers, and remarks about the specimens. Several of the volumes contain journal entries of the collector describing field activities, affairs of the day, personal financial accounts, and other personal matters. A few of the volumes include photographs. The collection also contains miscellaneous notes, lists, bibliographic references, and related materials on mollusks.
