  • John Southgate Yeaton Hoyt (1913-1951), an ornithologist, received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1948. Most of his professional career was spent as an assistant to Arthur A. Allen at the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology.
  • Sally Foresman Hoyt (1914- ), also known as Sally Hoyt Spofford, received her Ph.D. in ornithology from Cornell University in 1948. From 1955 to 1969, she was employed in various administrative posts at the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology.
