Catherine “Kitty” Scott, Chief Librarian and Director, National Air and Space Museum Library, 1972–94, began organizing, planning, and maintaining the new library well before the museum had opened. For her efforts, Scott earned the Superior Service Award In 1976. #Groundbreaker

On the 190^th anniversary of the death of Smithsonian founding donor James Smithson, we’re taking a look back at his posthumous journey, led by Alexander Graham Bell, to his final resting place in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Marie-Hélène Sachet joined the Smithsonian in 1966 as a special advisor in tropical botany at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. When the program ended in 1968, she was transferred to the Department of Botany, where she remained, eventually serving as a curator in the division, until her death in 1986. #Groundbreaker
